A great flight. It's Gordo and Hugh's third (or perhaps 4th) attempt at Rapid City. The last one ended in Logan, Utah. They made it to Casper, Wyoming on an earlier declaration. The task covers some rather forbidding terrain. Large mountain ranges, many of the smaller airports are too narrow for a Duo, and with irrigation equipment the farmland is not always a great option. Just spoke with Walt Rogers. Says he's tired, and spent the day at home! I suggested Gordo and Hugh rig the Duo in the meadow in front of Devil's Tower tomorrow to take photos... That'll go over well.
Devil's Tower is a large pillar of columnar basalt.
Rick Walters is driving, and expects to reach Hulett at 9AM.
Jim Payne and Dennis Tito had for them a short wave flight in the DG1001M today, landing at Bishop. Ramy Yanetz in the ASW27 got shot down even earlier into Bridgeport. Tom Bjork in his ASH30 with Kempton Izuno, Uwe Kleinhempel in one of Daan Pare's old Ventus 2CMs, and Robert Stone (dont know the glider) all had nice wave flights in the Sierra. Didn't hear anything from Mitch Polinsky, who wanted to declare a 2000k cat's cradle in his 31Mi today. The southern end of his task is near my home. The winds here were too southerly for consistent wave.
Wave season is winding down, but there can be wave as late as June.
Jim
