This is a climatological study.

I think the clouds on any given day over the scrub may be for other reasons. Particularly late in the day the scrub will trap warmer, moister air (tree evapo-transpiration - it's what they do) which will become lighter than the air over the open country nearby at low level leading to late convection with high based cu.

The article is ancient but I thought it was fascinating nonetheless.

Often I've seen cumulus form over the sunset country but not elsewhere when flying out of Waikerie or Horsham. Apparently it's not a coincidence.
