How about instead of more mandatory this or that,
WE SIMPLY DO OUR PRE TAKEOFF CHECKS PROPERLY AND CONSCIENTIOUSLY EVERY TIME.
In other times and places they have been called VITAL ACTIONS for good reason.
It helps if people don't stand around making
small talk while people are trying to do this.
If interrupted go back and start again at the beginning.
Much the same as the takeoffs where controls have
been reversed after maintenance or failed to be hooked up.
DISTRACTION during the procedure or during the
checks of the procedure is the real problem.
The guy in the ASW22B didn't die because of his
radio etc, etc. He died because he didn't do the
pre takeoff checks properly because clearly he
failed to check that the brakes were properly
locked. Then failed to notice that the aircraft
wasn't performing properly and failed to abort
the takeoff while there was opportunity.

I notice Aldi this Saturday (14th) have on
special again Active Noise cancelling headphones
for $39.99. Â These have batteries in the cup of
headphones and do know work extremely well in a
motorglider. Â You still use the boom mic so
there is no need to switch microphones (we often
hear people on wrong mic in motorglider like they are at the end of a tunnel).
They fold up into a small ball and have a case
but you will need an adapter to go from 3.5mm jack to 6.5mm jack.
For the past over 30 years in motorglider I turn
volume up to full before takeoff but headpnone
is a much better solution and unfortunately a
few years ago a Finnish guy in Australia ASW22B
took with airbrakes out and I believe did not
hear the radio as people on ground warned him. Â
Unfortunately it was fatal. I would never mind
if our GFA made it mandatory to hear a radio
properly while engine is running especially takeoff.
As some may realise all gliders  first
CERTIFIED (not build date) after about 1990
airbrakes do not suck up on self launch or
aerotow which really is a good safety feature.
(I do know this includes G103 III and DG1001 and many more newer gliders)
I do know owners at Keepit are using same and at
$40 each maybe buy 2 Noise cancelling headsets on Saturday!!!!!!
Just a thought
