So it wasn't a proper procedure under the CARs but GFA engineered an
exemption.

Anyone buying used B400 or B500 instruments - please be aware that
they may require updating to the final or current software standard.
B500s can be done by the user but B400/B700/B900 require factory or
properly equipped dealer service.
The B400 audio was modified a few years ago to be more sensitive in
the zero to +3 knot range and the latest software allows an audio
volume control on the current model repeater units.
There will be a small charge.
B500s can be upgraded to B600/B800. Price depends on serial numbers.
