Hi Brian, It could be a few different things, but my guess would be a TCP/HTTP session issue. The quickest way to find out which step of the process is failing (dns, routing, tcp, http etc), would probably be to do some packet captures.
I'd recommend Wireshark - https://www.wireshark.org/, its free and reasonably simple to use. I can give you a hand with it off-list with configuring a capture and interpreting the results if you like.
