Talking with Claire about figure labels belatedly reminds me...
In the longer term we should probably be changing all the labelled figures to use numbers as labels, with the words as a legend underneath. This makes the work of translators easier, because they can often use the figures as is, instead of needing to redo them with different words. Also, for some figures there are usability issues: if a toolbar has many icons, it gets too cluttered with a large number of words as labels; and if someone is looking for a particular function, it's often easier to find in the legend.
Many figures (especially toolbars with many icons) have already been converted to that style, but I keep forgetting to flag the others as I find them.
