Dear Open Office team,
I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Katrise Dillon and I have just
signed up to contribute to the open office documentation project. I'm new
to technical writing but no stranger to writing in general. I am eager to
contribute to the user guide and was wondering how to approach getting
started and how to determine who is working on what so as not to overlap. I
would appreciate any guidance you could give me. I've been looking over the
wiki, but I'm sure it will take me some time to internalize all of the
information. Looking forward to working with you all. Take care,
Katrise Dillon
Hi Katrise.
Things are a little quiet right now... a lot of us are into our summer
vacation period :-)
The work that is on-going is discussed here on the mailing list - for
example User Guide chapters that are being edited, or in review.
If you want to get an idea of writing style, and what is covered in the
guides, take a look at one of the "published" guides on
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation
The Calc guide was recently published, and the Wiki version needs to be
updated to reflect that. The Draw guide is in the middle of being
indexed, the Base guide is being reviewed, and the Writer guide needs a
review as well, looking for things that need updating to the latest OOo
release.
Other work that is in progress is reviewing and correcting the FAQ (on
the Wiki). Here, the task is fairly simple... pick an FAQ topic, read
it and check the solution against the latest OpenOffice.org. I fyou
want to start here, let us know and we'll give you the run-down on what
steps you need to take and a few Wiki editing tips (it's fairly easy
once you see how it works).
So lots going on... you simply have to pick something, and ask the list.
The people working on that bit will be able to tell you what/where/when.
