Hi,
I seem to have a couple of days free at the moment and would be
interested in looking at the Base intro. I know almost nothing about
databases. I did read SQL for Dummies a while a go but that's about it.
I have not done anything on OOo Authors for at least 2-3 years and I am
hopelessly out-of-date on how the site works. I did find that I can
still sign in :)
How would I go about coordinating with Kathy and Dan.
Or for that matter, once I've read the current draft of Chapter I Intro
would it make sense to spend time on chapters 2 or 3?
Thanks
John
You just begun your coordination with those of us who are
interested in getting the Base Guide written. The Introducing Base
chapter is located at the following link:
http://www.oooauthors.org/english/userguide3/db3/dbg3_draft/Introducing%20Base_DEL_RZ_20100326.odt/view.
Steps to finding the files: (Once you have done steps 1-3 below,
look for "Contribute to the Guide". It will give you more information as
to what you should be doing.)
1) Sign into the website.
2) Click English to go to the English section of the website.
3) Click Userguide3 for the version 3 of the User Guide.
4) Click base3 to go to the Base section.
5) Click Base3 Drafts to go to the location of the chapter files which
have already been written.
6) Download the file or files you want to review.
And to answer your question: yes, by all means read all three
chapters if you have the time.

Hi,
Since I joined authors a few weeks ago, I've worked on some FAQs for
Writer
and plan to keep doing so, but I thought I'd like to try a review of the
Introducing Base chapter. I use a relational database that I created as
part of my real estate job, so I have some experience as a novice use
of a
database (I haven't written macros for it or anything, but I regularly
tweak
it for everyday needs--reports& merges), and I think I could cast an eye
over it, from a user's point of view.
My question: the chapter has been up there un-reviewed since
March--is this
still an active project?
Regards,
Lisa
The Base Guide is still an active project. If you're willing to jump in
there and give it a read, then please do :-) Follow the same process as
other docs.. let the team know which chapter/section you're looking
into. Ask questions if things don't make sense. If we can't answer it
within the team, ping me, and I'll take the question to the developers
(many who are working in the same building as me).
I just took a look through the recent messages on the mailing list and I
see that Kathy and Dan have been working on the Base guide, so any work
on that guide should be co-ordinated with them. From the mailing
list... the Base Intro guide is in review... but an extra pair of eyes
will be welcome. :-)
