As a newbie, I would find that immensely helpful. I understand this is
an all-volunteer project, but it would be nice if there were someone, or
somewhere on the site, designated to help beginners get started. I
consider myself a fairly bright person, but the sheer amount of
information on the OOo Documentation Project website is extremely
daunting. It seems the mailing list, while being a great resource I'm
sure, would get repetitive with the n00b questions after awhile. Having
someone to turn to, setting aside a portion of the site dedicated to new
project volunteers, or --irony of ironies-- a document to refer to as
Jeanlock suggests, would minimize those questions and provide a clear
and comprehensive guide on where to go, what to do first, and how to do
it, just until we begin to get a handle on things. I feel I can
contribute and learn a lot here, but I get overwhelmed just thinking
about diving in.
All,
On the old wiki there was a section that explained in good detail the
process. There were also so two documents that were suggested reading,
Writing_OOo_Guides_v3.odt and style_guide_v3.odt. I downloaded and read
over these before asking for the author role. I do not remember there
being such a problem with getting started.
I just realized I have been with the project over a year now, go to get
back to work at it.
