Rachel,
Thanks for all your work. What I've done for Ch1 of IG3.2 is a short
version of that table. Many of the entries were variations on Ctrl =
Command, so I removed them and just left the generic entry. And I added
an entry for right-click = Command+click.

The longer version, plus any additional entries, will find a home
somewhere.

And while going through the table, I found one entry that's wrong for
Windows/Linux: Ctrl+Space bar does not insert a non-breaking space, but
Ctrl+Shift+Space bar does. If you got this from a user guide chapter,
it's wrong and we need to find and fix it. If it's a typo, no problem.

This is a change (I forget when it happened). Ctrl+Space /used to/ be right. --/tj/

Okay--I've uploaded a document with some Mac translations here:

Caveats!! The more I got into this, the more I felt it was a bigger task than I'd expected.
Initially it just looked like it was mostly translating "control" to "command,"
but there are enough random alts and shifts thrown in that I had to second-guess everything.
Additionally, there were some keystokes (especially in the Appendix A list) for which I simply
couldn't find a Mac equivalent. Which is not to say one doesn't exist... but I just haven't found
them yet. (Example: ctrl-F8 to get rid of grey shading in a field.)

I just threw them into the table and they're probably not in the best order,
and some descriptions may need to be reworded--Jean, I apologize for leaving
you with some cleanup on these. I wanted to make sure I got the actual data to
you tonight, but it's been a long day and my eyes don't want to look at a
computer anymore.

I would like to take a more prolonged swipe at this when I have more time,
because I'm certain I missed some. I have to catch a plane early tomorrow
morning, and that's my excuse for not staying up til midnight on this. :-)

Finally, I did notice that there's some discrepancy among the chapters as to the use of the word
"Control" versus abbreviation "Ctrl" when listing keystrokes. Not a huge deal
but it would be an easy thing to clean up.

Will do! Am I making an Impress-only list, or is this the universal Mac
translations list? Should I spend some time looking at the other guides as
well? (Not sure that there will be a lot that's specific to each program--so
the Impress list may BE the universal list--I just haven't delved into this
enough yet to know.)

Impress-only is okay at this point (to fill the immediate need), but
expanding the list to cover all of OOo would be good when you have a
chance, since the next book on the update queue is Getting Started. I
suspect there will be few component-specific items, more likely the
occasional keystroke that doesn't work (like F9 to start a slide show).
I made a note about that in the part about slide shows, btw.

Also, with the updated deadline, I may be able to spend some time Sunday
afternoon reviewing any Impress 3.2 chapters that still need a review, if any
are left.

Rachel,
For your Friday evening assignment<grin>, I think the most valuable
thing you could do is put together a basic list of "translations" to the
Mac for keys, menu items, etc. We can always expand the list later if we
discover more things that should be included. Table format is probably
best.

Then we can drop your list/table into the first chapter of each book as
it is updated... or wherever we decide to put that info.

Thanks!
