Thanks, Joe! I'll go through and finalise that chapter asap. There should be a guideline about when figure numbers & captions are needed or not, but perhaps my notes haven't made it into the guidelines yet. My rule of thumb is: no caption is needed if the graphic is immediately after (or next to, or surrounded by) the text, it's obvious what the graphic is (for example, when the name of the dialog box is part of the image), and the graphic does not need to be cross-referenced from elsewhere in the text. We are cutting out unnecessary cross-referencing for other reasons, so not all graphics need to be referenced in the text.
Generally it comes down to a matter of judgement: "noise" vs clarity, from the readers' point of view. --Jean On Sun, 2010-10-24 at 19:11 +0100, Joe Sellman wrote: > Hi Jean, > > I have worked through the GS Draw chapter and uploaded it to the feedback > folder > > As before, all the changes have been tracked and I have added comments to > ask questions, or explain why and where I have deviated from the Draw guide. > > I started (but then stopped) noting all the icons and images that appeared > differently to my version - do all the icons need updating. > Additionally, some of the graphics could be updated.
