I agree with your assessment, however the contributors could happily ignore the table formatting and this could be done in a final revision. Even better (though dangerous) you can run the macro when the document opens so you do not have to do anything at all. Having some "validation" macros in the template would actually speed up some of the more repetitive activities such as checking if bold and italic text is styled "correctly", or if the paragraph before a list is styled correctly. I also have (somewhere) an OOoAuthors keyboard layout that really helps to apply styles quickly (though you need to learn the keyboard shortcuts. Maybe we can add to the ever increasing list of nice to have features a collection of these tools.
