Hi,

I would like to start my volunteering with updating the FAQ on the wiki.
Please let me know if I need to be aware of anything. I've registered
with a wiki account. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Hi Vivian.

The FAQ is a good place to get started :-) Each FAQ is like a mini doc project that doesn't take up a lot of time to work on. Most take only 1 or 2 minutes each to validate. You can set your own pace and work on them when you've got time.

The basic steps you can work through are:
1. Pick an FAQ topic to work on from the Wiki
2. Compare what is written with the latest OpenOffice.org release. Is the answer given still valid? Does it make sense? 3. Check over the FAQ for style and writing. Is written so that it it can be understood by most/all readers? 4. Check the FAQ for format. Does it follow the format of the other FAQs? (one example of minor inconsistency I see in the FAQs is how the menu paths are written) Does the FAQ have the right Categories applied? (the Category is used to group and index the FAQ)
5. Once you've checked over an FAQ, mark it as verified.

An example of an FAQ that has recently been validated, is formatted correctly, has the right Category applied, and has a validation "stamp" is: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/FormattingPagesAndDocuments/How_do_I_perform_a_word_count_of_my_document%3F

If you have any questions about how to work on the Wiki, you run across a topic that doesn't make sense, or you want some advice from the team, just ask. There are no dumb questions.

Oh, and don't worry, you can't break anything permanently on the Wiki. If you make an edit that's wrong, it can always be fixed or cleaned up. Even if you were to delete a page, it can be recovered quite easily.
