Per your request, I spent all morning working to make Plone tell you the last person who touched a file. I think I got it.
Guess what? Since it was your idea, you now get to test it :-)
If you go to any 'File' object now, you will see, in red, the person who modified it last. Or at least... you should... The first thing I want you to verify is that this actually works.
If it does, I'd appreciate it if you could try changing the state of a file. Please verify that changing the state (e.g. from pending to visible) does affect this entry. It works for me, but I want to make sure it works for you.

Cool! I look at the Contents tab of a folder and click on a document to get to the file view. It shows the person who last did something to it. I retracted the document, then submitted it and the last modified (for "Styles reference for Writer" changed from Jean to me.
