I am for high redundancy. In general, I think it is more user-friendly to have a certain amount of information repeated in each book, so people don't have to refer to a chapter in a different book to find something out. (Referring people to a whole other book is a different matter.) Of course, which bits of info to repeat (and at what level of detail) is indeed the question!
