About five years ago, one company I interviewed with decided that I
was computer illiterate, because I did not know Excel. That I
understood how spreadsheets worked, having used both 123 and Visicalc
was irrelevant.

The current trend in HR is to have computers search resumes. If the
desired strings are not found, the resume is skipped over. If a
resume doesn't mention Excel, for a office admin position, literally
nobody knows that the resume exists. [About three or so years ago I
read an article about a SysAdmin who scanned in Larry Wall's resume at
his company. A year later Larry's name had yet to be listed as a
possible candidate for any IT position at that company.]
