If you're aiming at second-language English readers it won't be good if we have spelling and grammar differences in the range of documents forming the user guides. I guess that the ubiquity of American spelling in computer documents makes it the most recognisable standard (says he, spelling in the Australasian manner).

Several of our reviewers have English as a second language. None of them has expressed a problem or concern with the differences in spelling and punctuation between chapters. Agnes has been good at reminding us not to use contractions like "we'll" and "don't", but that's a different matter.
In fact, I suspect most people would never notice the differences. Editors, of course, are among the group who do notice differences. :-)
