1) Can we make the figures have chapter numbers instead of just getting bigger. Like in the Getting started with Calc, could the first figure be figure 7.1 instead of 66?

Yes, but it may be more hassle than it's worth. (I changed several design elements for the full book from what I wanted to what worked without hassle.) I'll have a try at the figure numbers. I agree that would be an improvement.

Fair enough, I thought it was an easy button to push.

Hi Peter (and anyone else with some time for testing),

Could you test your suggestion and see if it works? My quick test
suggests that the chapter number is not going to show up, because
OOo doesn't know what the "chapter number" is supposed to be
(we're not using heading numbering, even for the top level). And
if we did use heading numbering for the top level, I can't think
of a way to make the chapter number work correctly in both the
standalone chapter (where it would always be "1") and in the
master doc -- which is why we're putting in the numbers manually,
rather than using the automated method. But I haven't had a
chance to do much testing, and I can't make the time to do the
testing, so I'm hoping I'm missing something obvious or at least
easy and someone else can show me how to do it.

If anyone wants to do some testing, all the files you need are here:

Just don't overwrite anything in that folder, please!

Cheers, Jean
