What is the objective of the first page? What do you want to happen when someone arrives at the first page?

Click on a language link. If they like what they see, bookmark it.

If it is for the casual person, that is one thing, if it is for an authour, an other thing.

I'd expect most authors to go straight to their language page. That's what I do with Wikipedia. But we have to have *something* for a front page. So I think it's good to have one that is simple and encourages the user to go to a language site.

Personally, I like the first one with an addition of a site map.

I'm not sure how I'd design a site map. I've never found one that I thought was useful.

The second page you forgot "Get OOo"

I didn't forget. I'm just presenting an alternative (ie. no button).

Cheers,
Daniel.
