Edmud, I made an et folder a while ago, but we never heard from you.
I didn't nowhere see, that I must do any reports, that I'm exist or
something. I'm reading this list every day but I do not have say
nothing important. Actually, I don't know, what is (are) indicator(s),
that I am existing? Is there any time, that if I don't log in, then
account is deleted, like some public e-mail systems do?
I asked you about how you were planning to use it and you didn't say
anything.
Well, I said it and even written it to there (oooauthors.org/et), that
everybody can read it. I wrote some information in Estonian (for
Estonians) but main information also in English, so everybody (who
knows English) can understand it. I think there is much more, who
knows English rather than Estonian. Isn't it enough? Here in Estonia
are ca 1 Million Estonians and we don't have very much people, who are
familiar with free software. Microsoft's brainwash has its effects
even here... Actually most of them waited that voting at 6th of July
in Strasbourg (EU Parliament) about software patents. Who knows -
perhaps working with free software is pointless if software patents
will come. Perhaps in U.S. it is usual situation but in Europe, also
in Estonia, people don't like it, I mean - software patents. Even one
of our previous prime minister said, that Estonia is supporting
software patents, it's not true. He made this decision without
discussing with the government and who knows - perhaps Microsoft paid
him. This is also reason, why he is not anymore prime minister. He
damaged a lot of Estonian image and currently we can only forgive him
and pray, that the Lord will decide his destiny.
I also worked making lobby work for fighting against software patents
here in Estonia. I am only one and every day has only 24 hours - I
cannot do everything all the time. I tried to find a way but I
couldn't get more than 24 hours per day+night....
Could you please tell me your plan for an et folder and how you want
to manage it? (e.g. who should have access to it, etc).
Well, as I understand, there can be stored some (I don't have any idea
- are there any disk quotas...) files to collect data (documents) and
work with them. As I said, I plan to do OOo 2.x book for schools but
this might not happen during this summer. As a volunteer, there are
not very much interested peoples but some are.
I also not decided yet, what is right format for this. It should be
searchable (headings and contents) and illustratable (can add
pictures/screenshots/etc.). Perhaps some wiki can satisfy it - there
must be test it. But this book should definitely be in electronical
format. At first it come out in Estonian and perhaps in future also in
other languages. Electronic version doesn't need extra money for
spreading it. It can be always improve and make better by adding and
correcting the materials in it.
It should be accessible to everyone, to whom I decide to give the
access. One or couple of people should have main rights to decide and
organize order and necessity of materials.
I'd like to manage it over the web as Plone makes it possible.
But I cannot guarantee, that I will every day handle with it. I have
lot of other work also to do.
Perhaps you know, that people are divided into two parts by activity.
One of peoples don't have almost nothing to do and other peoples have
very lot of things to do. Well, if there is needed good workers, they
will be searched from that second part. So, perhaps you can imagine,
that I belong to the second group....
So, please forgive me, that I cannot every day live for that.
I appreciate your feedback,
Edmund Laugasson
