I think that the greeter could step the neophyte through some basic things, like finding stuff on the web site, what is expected on downloading and uploading, maybe even a practice of doing such. Then introduce the neophyte to a number of the 'tools' and practice using the tools on a sample or so.

This is what I envision.

Then, I think that an advanced member, a writer, should take a neophyte and ask that person to review the work of said writer, guide the neo-reviewer through what is expected. Also, maybe two neo-reviewers could hook up and swap lies about reviewing. After, working with the neo-reviewer, the writer should pass the responsibility onto another writer, this may round out the experiences for the neo-reviewer.

The daunting things to me were finding the thing to review, next finding out the writer was very experienced, then trying to figure not only what to do but how to do it. I didnot change too much but ended up asking question (Notes or comments I forget) on why was such and such done, should not this be consistent with another place etc. I think that what I did was helpful.

I am sure they were helpful.

The visions of what the mentoring should be is what I also envisioned when this topic was first mentioned.

Now, to figure out how to implement it.

Have a good one,

I did!! First time for a long time that I logged onto a 40m Radio Amateur net, then made a number of contacts. It was great.

Now how do we start this mentoring going? Summer time is a good time for kicking back and looking at the clouds. ( I cannot let too much sun on my back as I have a bad skin there. Ever heard of Cryosurgery?) But let's set up something that can be bandied to make it a bit better for mentoring.

One decade and one score years ago, I joined a group of men. There were 2 who lead me around so that I could learn what was going on, then a 'teacher' (the word mentor was not used then but is now) was assigned to me to make sure that I learned. He is still around and I have talked to him. It is great. I slowly and finally developed so that I now am mentoring others in many ways. Comradship was also built up. That is one reason that I asked for a mentor. In OOo I need help, it is difficult to do it on one's own.

The first phase could be the greeter set up phase as previously outlined.
An optional extra to the first phase could be helping CPH, GRS etc on answering a few basic questions on the User reflector. This would give the neophyte some insight into what the main questions etc were for a beginning on OOo. This would also help in researching answers and responding. But this would be optional as some people do not have the disposition to answer some of the questions. Just observe and you will find answers from You idiot to please give more info.

The second phase would be going to parterning with the advanced person and another neophyte.

Come on. Lets hear some more comments (Or should it be lets see some more comments)

Chris
