Meta tags are a necessary part of any SEO plan, as Daniel and Linda have said several times recently, but the information in the tags (called "metadata") goes well beyond SEO.
I'm researching and writing a chapter about metadata right now for a book I'm contributing to: what metadata is, what it is fot, how it is used (in meta tags and much more), and related topics.
I'm at the outline stage of this chapter and will soon be writing the content. When I've got a draft ready, I'd love to have people review it -- both people like Linda who know a lot more about the topic than I do (to tell me where I've gone wrong), and people who know less (to tell me if my explanations make sense). Want to volunteer? ;-)
Actually, I could use some reviewers of other chapters in the book too. If anyone reading this note is interested, please contact me offlist. I don't want to say much in public about the book until the publisher is ready to make an announcement.
