Hi Ken! I'm not Jean, but I'd like to say "welcome aboard!"
Yes, it'd be great to get some expertise in databases in particular
(IMNO). The database is one of the big new things in the next version of
OpenOffice.org so it's fitting that we document it well. Sadly, I can't
tell a database from an oak tree, so I can't really write new chapters.
All I can do is review chapters and help make them readable.
I'm glad that you have teaching experience. I do too, though in a
different context. I was a mathematics teaching assistant for about 6
years and a volunteer tutor for a bit longer than that. This month I
started a new job, working with Ian Lynch. It's related to open source
in education, but it's not teahcing (this week I'm learning to setup a
thin client network for a local school).
In any event, I found that my teaching experience has helped me a lot in
this project. Because it helped me learn how to teach a concept in the
clearest possible way. If you ever read one of my reviews (and you
likely will ;-) you'll see that I focus heavily on making the content as
clear as posible.
Oh, we have another teacher on board. Peter Kuper is a science teacher
at a highschool in Illinois, USA. As for myself, my teaching was half in
Toronto, Canada and half in Maryland, USA. Right now I am located in a
small town near Birmingham, UK.
In any event, please do give us your login name (you can private mail me
or Jean if you prefer) and we'll give you edit access to the to the
user guide. Once we do that, you'll also see a "review list" with
chapters that are up for review. Though not required, it's a very good
idea to start by reviewing a chapter or two, so you can get a feel for
the system.
