OK, I gave you the author role :)

[...very interesting background...]

I want to say "welcome" to you and wish you a lot of fun together with
us by writing and improving this stuff.
For the beginning, I recommend, that you review some current chapters.
For this choose one chapter from the review list, download it and set
the status of this chapter to "retract". When you've finished your
review, please upload your chapter to the feedback-folder in the
appropriate user-guide-folder. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask them. :) We all want to help new users.

Gary,

Welcome from me too! I am one of two editors on this project (the other is Janet Swisher), and I do a lot of coordination for the English-language books. Janet edits the Writer Guide, and I try to keep up with all of the others. :-)

I see that Sigrid has granted you the author role. Now, after you log in, you will see the Review List on the bottom left. I encourage you to review "Using Forms in Writer" or "Linking Data in Calc".

But first! Do read these two pages for background information:
http://oooauthors.org/en/index_html
http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/resources/howto_review

The second one has links to useful how-tos on retracting a file, naming conventions, and uploading a file.

Do read the style guide and "Writing OOo Guides", and you might also like to browse through some of the published chapters to get a feel for the writing and presentation style we have chosen.
