The only reason why I feel confident taking the "Working with Styles" chapter is because I know that I'll receive help when I ask. :-)

Therefore, if Jean thinks so, I shall accept taking the role of maintainer for Getting Started chap Setting up OpenOffice org.

Hence, I just might need instructions on how, what, where, when, and, possibly why.

I'm not Jean, but I can start answering the how, what, etc.

But before that, if you are less confident of your knowledge of OOo, perhaps you would feel more confortable with the "Getting Started with Writer" chapter in the Getting Started guide? Just a thought. Look over the chapters and pick the one you think you'd most enjoy maintaining.

In any event, back to what/how/etc:

1) If the chapter is already published, as is the case with the chapter you indicated, there is not a huge ammount of work. At the moment (when we're still writing other chapters) it's just basic maintenance. If someoe finds a mistake or significant omission (not likely) they would send you a reviewed file. You'd look at their review, and if you agree with the changes, you'd accept them. In the case of a published chapter, you should also contact the editors (Jean and Janet).

2) If the chapter is not yet published, but is "essentially finished", you need to maintain a review process. Read over the chapter and try to make it more clear, complete, etc. At some point, submit it for review. When you get a review, look over the changes and accept or reject them. Do this several times until you feel that the chapter is reaching publishable quality. That's a judgement call, but you can just ask opinions from your reviewers if you're not sure. When you think the chapter is close to publishable, say so on the list. At this point I'll try to look at it, depending on my schedule, and make a review. Next Jean or Janet will review it, at which point they can make more edits and publish it, or they can make general suggestions and send it back to you to continue the review process.

3) If the chapter is incomplete, you need to have an outline of what the chapter should contain, and start writing :-)

Cheers,
Daniel.
