I don't know if it is documented. I've seen that behaviour on so
many other programs that I never even thought about it when I
noticed it happening with OOo. Or rather, I thought "oh, it's
saving the file and I can't do anything until it's done". Do you
think it should be mentioned? Does it happen in any other
circumstances? I don't recall.

So far I have not seen that behaviour on other circumstances. I think
that it should be mentioned somewhere. As at first blush it is a little
disconcerting.
