G'day, Chris,
I will next be downloading the various documentation therefore. However, I am a little confused. Should I download from the documentation site or the OOo authors site?
Use the files at OOoAuthors. They are always the latest version. When I'm running behind on my work (which is often, these days), the ones at Docs may be a bit out of date.
As an aside, who is doing the indexing that is in progress (as stated on the doc site)?
No one so far. What does the Docs site say? I must check. Daniel and Janet and I had looked into getting some professional indexing students to do the OOoAuthors guides, but AFAIK this work has not started yet.
I think that your reply is dated Oct 16, so 6 wks later is way into Nov.
I leave here on 1 Nov and I hope to get home on 3 December. However, a few days ago I learned that my 84-year-old mother was in hospital for a few days and is now in a convalescent center and needs to move an assisted living apartment at her retirement community, so my visit (intended to be a routine Thanksgiving visit) may be extended to help organise her things for the move. I won't know what the situation really is until I get there next week, so all my plans are up in the air right now.
My Internet access is slow also.
The main problem for me when visiting people (my mother or others) is that there's only one phone line and they are not happy with me using it for long periods of time during the day. I have done large downloads overnight, but my usual work habits during the day are quite disrupted. On this next trip, I expect to be busy during the day doing other things, so that probably won't matter.
Then I shall download the new documentation and slowly test out what I can. One of the comments on the documentation was that indexing was in process... I guess the question is, who is doing the indexing, how do I contact them, would they like help, how can I help with indexing, what method, books, procedures are they using?
As noted above, indexing of OOoAuthors books has not started. If someone is indexing stuff at Docs, I don't know anything about it. I guess I should find out!
And what part of the USA are you visiting? (I am just north of Spokane WA)
My mother lives in Lacey, a suburb of Olympia, WA. Cheers, Jean
