Woo hoo! We sold our 100th book today!
Congratulations to all the team at OOoAuthors for a job well done.
Hey, that's great. :) Thank you to all the authors and contributors.
That's really good.
That is great, nothing like having the market validate one's efforts. :-)
I have a question or two however -
What happens to the proceeds of the sales?
Is this group a revenue stream for OO.o besides being the resource for
documentation?
These books have been published by Friends of OpenDocument Inc.
(FoOD), an Australia-based organisation (of which I am one of the
officers). FoOD has stated that the members of OOoAuthors can
decide on what to do with the profits from the sale of these
books. There was some discussion on this list late last year
about possibilities, and some good suggestions were made, but no
decision beyond "we'll decide when we actually have some profits".
Please note that there are no profits as such at this time, as
there are still expenses to cover, such as the cost of an ISBN
for each book (which I plan to get soon). As Daniel said, this is
so we can get the books on Amazon.com and other retailers.
I will be doing the accounts for FoOD and posting them on FoOD's
website later this month. At that point (when we know how much
money is available) it would probably be relevant to reopen the
discussion on what to do with it.
