I just noticed this on the OOo forums and confirm that the link is wrong. but I have no idea how to go about requesting a change.
Thanks, John. I'll add this to a bug report I've filed about that support page, which the last time I looked had none of the books about V2.0 listed, among its other problems. The link mentioned below is almost surely to a V1.x guide, so would probably not be of much use to the person who posted the question. Did you suggest he/she try the OOoAuthors guides at Docs?
I would fix the page myself, but I don't have write access to it, despite repeated offers to assist the project by keeping it up to date. (Fortunately I do have write access to the Documentation Project's pages.)
On the OO support page, http://support.openoffice.org/index.html#oob the link associated with the entry Free: Guide to OpenOffice.org Writer points to a bug report, not a downloadable PDF file as I expected. How or where could I download that user guide to Writer? Of course the link might just be an editorial comment by a disgruntaled developer :)
The way documents are developed and uploaded at OOo is through "issues" (using the bug report system). Usually one can download a PDF (or SXW, or ODT) from the bug report, but most users would not understand that. Sometimes docs sit in "issues" for many months or longer, and when they do get moved to a better location, often no one gets around to updating the links (or the person who should do that is not aware that the link needs updating).
