Thanks, Jim.

Maintainers are responsible for making sure their chapters are up to date with changes in the software. This includes accepting or rejecting changes suggested by other people who review the chapter. Maintainers also improve upon chapters by adding or rewriting material, and call for people to review their own changes.

Maintainers should have a good understanding of formatting issues like anchoring illustrations and the use of our custom styles (easy enough to learn if you're not familiar with them already).

The book's editor (up to now, that's usually been me, but with Gary and other people coming on board, that may change -- indeed, I hope so!) will generally do a pass through a chapter that has more than trivial changes, as a check on consistency with the writing style used in the rest of the book. Maintainers who feel their writing skills (or their English, especially if not native speakers) are a bit weak thus get backup from an experienced technical editor.

When a chapter has been revised, the maintainer creates a PDF and puts both the ODT and PDF on the OOoAuthors website, then notifies me (through the list) that the PDF is ready to be uploaded to the Docs website.

Hmmm... there may be more that I can't think of right now. Guess I should write this up a bit better and put it on the website!

Cheers, Jean

Jean,
I am happy to take on the role of a maintainer if i can come to you for advice at least in the early stages
Jim
