Actually it _is_ adequate for simple documentation but not for real
heavy duty bibliographic use. If I am setting up a bibliography I want
it so that I can use the same input all the time. That is, I may have
1,000s of references and for one paper I may need to format for the
Chicago Manual of Style, for another for Nature etc. I should be able
to change this formatting at the click of a mouse. OOo does not even
let me save a single layout for reuse. It looks okay at first sight but
it really appears to have been very competently programmed to meet some
specs that really don't reflect what a bib should do. I suspect that
whoever wrote the specs had never had to use more than one bibliograhic
style and thus did not appreciate the problem.
