Andrew Pitonyak has written a replacement chapter on macros for
the Getting Started book.

This chapter focuses mainly on using the macro recorder and
macros written by other people; it refers more advanced readers
to other sources of information. This new chapter is in response
to many comments that the former Ch17 (also written by Andrew and
originally Ch1 of his book "OOo Macros Explained") was too
advanced for many users.
I've done some editing, but the chapter really needs a good look
by several other people to determine if it is written at the
right level, in an understandable sequence, with appropriate
examples and screenshots. In other words, it is time for some
usability testing of this chapter, especially by people who are
not familiar with macros... who have perhaps done some macro
recording or installed some macros written by others, rather than
people with experience in writing their own macros.
