Jean, I think your assessment of what the chapter needs is spot on.
Right now is definitely not the right time for me to volunteer to take on more. I'm working long hours for the next little while to meet work deadlines. Maybe in two or three months, when things have settled down a bit, I can do more, but right now I shouldn't commit to anything beyond what's already burying me. The ability to customize is one of my favorite things about OOo, and I'd like to see it explained better. Peter H-B will do that if whoever rewrites the chapter doesn't want to. I have accepted some of Scott's edits and added my comments (more detail than what I've said above) to his notes.
