Peter, WG Ch3 is ready for you, in the Writer Feedback folder. I think you've
done the images for this one before, but Fig 31 is new and needs
replacement. I think Fig 2 (Paste menu) would be improved if it did NOT
include "DDE link" as a choice. This shows up occasionally, under
circumstances which I don't understand, and I would like to avoid either
trying to explain it or ignoring it.
I think that the DDE entry is very important and should be left well alone. It
is adequately described in "Help" under DDE and functions as described. If you
are not familiar with it, it works by inserting a "live" link in Document 'A' to
a selection in Document 'B'. i.e. as you change Document 'B' the change is
reflected in real time in Document 'A'. The underlying mechanism appears to be a
field.
I tested it by:
1 Opening a new text document
2 Selecting some text in another document - Chapter 3 as it happens.
3 Pasting Special as a DDE link into the new document
4 Watching the contents of the new document change as I edited Chapter 3.
I tried to find info (in terms suitable for mere mortals) on what showed up
on the Paste Special menu, under what circumstances, and what the choices do,
but I didn't have much luck. It's on my list for researching later.
The DDE (as the others do also) option only appears when the context of the
clipboard contents is relevant. For example, a graphic image on the clipboard
does not offer any of the textual options, including DDE, but text and
spreadsheet data does.
Anyway, enough of that: I've finished Chapter 3 and it should now be in
Feedback, together with the zipped image file. I took the liberty of re-writing
the section on hyperlink editing to put the focus on OOo V2.3, rather than 2.2.1
and, by the same token, I deleted Figure 32 as it only referred back to a
superseded version of the software. I hope that this meets with your approval.
