I think the 2-column landscape format is excellent for online reading. Of course some figures might pose a problem especially with less than 17" monitors but cropping (and maybe providing a link to full size images for some difficult cases) should do the job. Page numbers should definitely correspond to the reader's page number (I know one can change this but OTOH how many bother to? especially when you are looking for guidance online). The whole point is whether OOoauthors (not that there are too many of you guys, unfortunately) are prepared to have a version of the guides that does not readily lend itself to print-and-read. I personally think that less and less people will actually care to print since printing the whole guide is expensive (OK maybe a chapter or more probably a page or two about doing their favorite trick in OOo) especially with the prices of portable storage at the current levels.
