Yes, it's time we made a decision.

My opinion: significant extensions should be covered in the chapter (or appendix, depending on the book) on customization, and they should be covered in the same level of detail as other (built-in) features.

What is a "significant extension"? IMO, those that are being mentioned by OOo marketing as features of OOo3 but are available only as an extension (not integrated into OOo): for example, Sun Presenter Console, PDF import, and the Sun Report Builder.

There are a few other extensions that I think might be worthy of inclusion: André Schnabel's Template Changer in particular (http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/templatechanger), which I've been using to keep up with changes in our template. That one needs only a short paragraph in the Writer Guide.
