Andrew

Many thanks for your kind response, and thanks for the offer to discuss this off list. I received several responses (many thanks to everyone who responded), so I thought it best to respond on list.

I did a "dumb thing" (TM) in trying to log into the users forum. I allowed the browser to enter a user name and password but did not actually /look /at what it put in. The password was right, but the browser entered my email address for the user name. The web site was properly dissatisfied with that. Curiously the forum web site allowed me to change the password and sent me a confirmation message for the new password, even using my email address for the user name, and it still disallowed my log in. When I realized my error, I used my user name, DavidBassPlayer, and my password allowed me to log in.

I can get in now but Jean Weber suggested what is probably a "better way":

"The old -- and unofficial -- OOoForum has had intermittent problems
similar to the one you describe, and afaik there is no "fix" (long
boring story which I won't go into).

"I recommend you join the new -- and official -- OOo community forum
that was set up last year. Afaik, it works fine. "

I did this (Thanks Jean) and the new forum works fine, and is "official" so I'll use it.

Again, thank you for your kind offer to help and thanks to all other respondents.

David, can you reply to me directly (as in you do not need to copy the authors mailing list)

What is your user name on the OOo forum?

I tried to guess your user name with no luck. I searched for *teag*

I can check your status and enable your account. If you have simply forgotten your password, I can change it.

I know this isn't a proper place to ask this but the OO.oForums provides no mechanism to ask this question.

I registered for OOoForums.org. The page accepts my registration but denies me entry. Whom do I contact to fix this? I replied to [EMAIL PROTECTED] but I will be very surprised if that doesn't bounce.

Many thanks for any help offered.
