Hello Gary,

X-referencing has been vastly improved in OOo3.0 in fact you can now
directly reference headings as well as numbered items.
So, instead of having to set a reference to a heading and then use it,
you can now skip the first step. I did change the existing references
in a couple of chapters of the Writer guide, but in general, since the
effect was basically the same I did not bother with all the others.
In the Impress guide (some day I will start the "upgrade" to version
3) I used quite often references to numbered points describing
step-by-step procedures and in this case I think I will exploit the
new capability of OOo3.0 as this will allow to add or remove the
number of steps in a procedure without having to correct the
references manually.

With regards to X-refs to other documents, I think you still need to
define a document master, but I did not try.

Cheers,

Michele
