Hi, Regina,

From my point of view the chapter needs a rework. (I have not looked at other chapters yet.) Unfortunately I have only time enough to do it, when I am on vocation, which will be in July/August. The other problem is, that my English is not so good, that I can write proper texts. They would certainly need a linguistic review.

Your skill at English is admirable. (My German can barely manage to translate the occasional comment in the code.) If you do the hard work, supplying useful and precise information, I (and others) will be glad to provide any linguistic polishing which may be desirable.

Hi all,

I have started at Chapter 7 and I'm very unhappy with its content. I have added some remarks on the first talk pages, but it seems the talk pages are not watched although they are designed in the Wiki for reviewing.

Your comments are very much to the point, and something should be done. Perhaps something like this, for an introduction:

Formulas and functions, in the widest sense, are the same kind of thing. Like recipes, they are sequences of operations, which manipulate data, and produce a useful value. The biggest difference is that, in Calc, you write the formulas, but the functions are already written for you. A formula may use functions inside itself, to do part of the work. The syntax for working with formulas and functions is quite different, as well, so it is best to keep the two concepts distinct.

?, Note on writing your own functions: ref Calc Help, Spreadsheets > Functions Types and Operators > User-Defined Functions
