I have recently spent some time studying Mid level tutorial for
Base Parts I-III. I had one difficulties with Part III: I am not a very
good typist. I still recommend this tutorial for anyone wanting to learn
to use SQL with Base. As the result of my studies, it occurred to me
that the proposed Chapter 3 of the Base Guide could be modified to
include instructions on how to use the combination of the Table Wizard,
Design View, and SQL when creating and modifying tables. Obviously, only
Design View and SQL can be used to modify tables. These modifications
came from my struggles to type SQL statements correctly.
I'm not sure what an Exercise Log table is: specifically, what its
fields are as well as their field types and properties.
Here is my suggestion for the modified chapter 3 outline:
3.Chapter 3: Data input and removal (topics not necessarily in order)
3.1.Creating Tables
3.1.1. New Table Wizard
3.1.2.Create Tables using Copy and Paste
3.1.3.Create Tables using SQL
3.2.Modifying Tables
3.2.1.Using Design View
3.2.1.1.Changing fields, field types, and properties
3.2.1.2.Adding fields with their field types and properties
3.2.2.Using SQL
3.2.2.1.Changing fields, field types, and properties
3.2.2.2.Adding fields with their field types and properties
3.3.Creating a form
3.3.1.Beginning with the Form Wizard
3.3.2.Modify the embryo form
3.4. Working with the table templates
3.5. Create Exercise Log table
3.6. Other topics?
3.7. Example (flat database)
3.8. Example (relational d/b)?
Perhaps this is an issue to be placed into another email: the
tutorial to which I referred at the beginning is presently in draft
form. Is some help needed to review and suggest changes to bring it
closer to being ready to be published. I know it is not yet completed.
If so, how?
