Most people copy-and-paste them from the examples in the chapter template (on the last page) or from an existing document, I think.

AFAIK, AutoText doesn't automagically come with either the document or the template.

If someone wants to put them into an AutoText they do it themselves. I doubt many (if any) people do. I know I don't.

Looking for info on the OOA site, I found a couple of references to a "Template How-to", but no trace of that document (at least under "Contributor resources" < UG3).

What used to be the "template how-to" is now included in the chapter template itself. I should find and purge from the website any references to a separate document, to avoid confusing people.
