I'm new here and I would like to get involved. I don't want to start on something someone else is already doing. I'm very familiar with Writer, and can operate Calc pretty well. Is anything in need of work that isn't currently being worked on by someone else? I'm a little unsure how you merge changes if I just pick something up. Thanks!
Welcome, Jeff. It's great to have you on board. You might post to the list a little bit about yourself and your background and experience, similar to what you mentioned to me offlist earlier.
Have you installed the latest developer build (beta) of OOo 3.2? If not, please do, so you can check for subtle changes in the UI (user interface) as well as trying out new and changed features. (Thank you, Michele, for the list in another note!)
Lots of things in the guides need work. Michele Zarri is planning to tackle the updates to the Impress Guide (most of which he and I wrote), but the Getting Started guide and most chapters of the Writer Guide need to be checked against v3.2. (Note that there is a lot of overlap between the chapters of the GS book and corresponding chapters in the other books, so wherever you start, it's useful to make changes in all the relevant places.)
Chapters 1 and 2 of the Getting Started book are on the Review List. AFAIK, none of the others are being worked on at this point.
Chapters 1 and 2 of the Writer Guide are also on the Review List, and these chapters are being worked on: 6,7,8,12. Others still need attention.
Chapters 7 and 9 of the Calc Guide are on the Review List. Ch7 in particular needs editing for English usage, logical progression of ideas, and matching our writing style. Most of the other chapters in the book have been reviewed at least once, but I have not finished checking them over for placement back on the review list. I hope to do so this week.
The Draw Guide has not been updated from OOoV2.x to 3.x, though I think someone might be working on it. I don't think any major changes have been made to Draw (other than the addition of a new way to crop things), so it has remained a lower priority. Also, moving a book from the old template we used for v2 books to the new template for v3 books has its own issues: lots of fiddly little things to tidy up. Somewhere I'm sure I have a set of hints for doing this in the least painful way.
