I prefer to use pop-up menu in the Getting Started guide and the beginner's chapter of each of the other guides because it has more meaning for ordinary users. That's why I changed it in the GS with Base chapter: to make it consistent with the rest of the book.

However, I try to avoid all those specific terms by simply leaving them out. It's a "menu" -- the situation usually makes it clear what kind of menu it is (or where it appears), so there's no need to mention it. Same way for several other terms. Simplifying the terminology is much to be desired IMO, and I've been doing that as I think of it or notice it. (That's a low priority for me, well after getting the facts right.)

However, Regina has a good point, so it's okay with me if we use "context menu" in cases where the type of menu really needs to be mentioned.

Hi,

I think, that the term should be the same as in the help. There it is "context menu".

While reviewing "Getting Started with Base", I noticed the use of the
term "pop-up" menu. I'm thinking that OOo help has referred to this as
a "context" menu. The reason being that the menu which appears when
you right click depends upon what you click. Hence, the appearing menu
depends upon the context involved in the right click. Perhaps I am
being picky, but I would like to know which of these is the preferred
term so I can standardize the wording in this chapter (and other
chapters as well).
I'm presently a little over half-way finished with my review. Updating
this chapter for 3.2 has required more changes and a few additions
than I had expected.

You could touch both bases by referring to it as a "context pop-up
menu." Then most everybody should be satisfied. If that works, that
expanded term could be added to the style guide.
