A few seconds off of './testsuite -k empty' on cygwin, but that includes
more than just 'Empty test'.

Before:

real    1m4.345s
user    1m10.394s
sys     0m31.605s

After:

real    1m2.853s
user    1m7.428s
sys     0m31.231s
