Hello, I've worked on the long-pending patch series by Benoit Sigoure (which has been commented upon and reworked a couple of times). It now passes on GNU/Linux, MinGW, and Cygwin, and so I figured it's ok to go ahead and commit it, and do necessary further cleanups in followup patches. I believe to have incorporated all comments that were done to earlier versions of the patches.
I'll be replying with the patches that I applied, including comments to what changed. Cheers, Ralf
