FWIW, I agree that a stable branch would be a good idea.  Or, if that is
less work, start one in presence of regressions and just cherry-pick
from master.  (In the latter case, stable would have to be fake-merged
or rewound after new feature releases.)  It probably won't have to be
a long-term branch, as major issues are usually found fairly quickly.
