Or, if you do not use the package (I'm developing a new version of echoping):
F77=false ./configure
which seems to work as well. Thanks for the tip.

I tried a "pkg_add gcc3", then a "CC=/usr/pkg/gcc-3.3/bin/gcc ./configure" and
I got exactly the same problem.
