Is your script home-grown or does it have some wider usage? What does
it output upon
dirname -- /
? I'm asking because maybe we can easily rule that out as non-working,
maybe even just by
if (as_d=`dirname -- /` && test "$as_d" = /) >/dev/null 2>&1; then
echo good
else
echo bad
fi
