Where is the proper place to get Automake/Autoconf to track my include files when creating a distribution?

I'm not sure I understand the question: what is "your" include file.

The Autoconf generated configure script checks for header files on
the build host, the macro used for that is AC_CHECK_HEADERS.

OK, I guess my include files go in makefile.am on the "SOURCES" line with other .c files. That works. I was looking for some magic mechanism that I really didn't need, noobie that I am.
