Yep - inside makefiles, for shell code where you want a $ to be visible to the shell instead of make, you have to escape $ as $$. It's a bit of a shame that all three tools (m4, shell, make) have subtly different behaviors on when $ is special. > > Thank you for your help, everything is good to go now.
